Meet the Owners

Both Renee Agee and Brenda Barnes, owners of Groovy Dog Bakery®, Inc. and Groovy Dog™ Franchising Systems, LLC are enthusiastic dog lovers and hard-working businesswomen. They created Groovy Dog Bakery® in 1999 out of their home kitchens, creating recipes, developing packaging, creating markets and generating a huge following in the Austin area. In 2001 Whole Foods Markets asked Groovy Dog Bakery® to deliver products to their grocery stores in the Southwest Region.

With all of this going on, they decided in the summer of 2002 to open the first Groovy Dog Bakery® retail store in Austin. From the start, Renee and Brenda knew they were creating a concept that would generate enthusiastic support from the dog and business community. With that in mind, they focused on a franshising concept and opened their second retail store in the winter of 2003. In the summer of 2005, Groovy Dog™ Franchising Systems, LLC sold store number two as its first Groovy Dog Bakery® franchise! The franchising division was launched!

Renee Agee is a graduate of East Texas State University with a degree in photography. With over twenty years experience as a professional photographer she embarked into web and graphic design. She is the main brain behind the Groovy Dog Bakery® logo, website and packaging. She also has numerous years of experience in business management.

Brenda Barnes is a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant and has her MBA from Texas State University. She has over 20 years experience in management, personnel, facilities and operations. She is the main brain behind the franchise operations, systems, product development, accounting and finance.

Xena, a 4 year-old Boston Terrier is the Groovy Dog Bakery® mascot. Xena takes her job very seriously from testing new treats to meeting and greeting new customers. She is full of energy, spirit and eager for affection!
